Sabine Schleiermacher is a historian of medicine and science, a theologian and was head of the research focus on contemporary history, Institute for the History of Medicine and Ethics in Medicine, Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin. She conducts research on questions of the social and ethics in medicine, structures and institutions of health care in different historical contexts (Kaiserreich, Weimar Republic, National Socialism, GDR and FRG), especially in a comparative perspective and in processes of transformation (Charité), as well as on guiding ideas in medicine and medical education. Research fields also include the history of science ("pseudoscience", geomedicine, "Generalplan Ost") as well as gender history (female physicians), population policy and the history of the public health system and its actors (public health officers, forced labor, eugenics/racial hygiene, dealing with infectious diseases).

FU-Berlin, Habilitation at the Hannover Medical School (MHH) for the subject History, Theory and Ethics in Medicine. 1999 researcher and from 2004 to 2022 head of the research unit "Contemporary History of Medicine", renamed to "Forschungsschwerpunkt Zeitgeschichte".
